Course Description
This five day course is the result of a new collaborations between the “Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid” (ESCM), Project Canción Española and the International Spanish Music Center. Participants will have the opportunity to study with Jorge Robaina and Julio Alexis Muñoz, distinguished faculty of the “Escuela Superior de Canto” in the “Palacio Bauer”, located in the center of Madrid near the Prado Museum, the National Archives, the Royal Opera House and many other tourist attractions. Nan Maro Babakhanian, director of Project Canción Española will also offer master classes. There will be additional courses of Spanish culture and language as well as Flamenco Rhythm and Dance and, finally, all participants will perform in the conservatory’s beautiful 18th century Theater in the Gala closing concert. This concert is programmed as part of Madrid's famous "Clasicos en Verano" Chamber Music Festival.
The course includes daily master classes and private sessions of performance and interpretation, with extra lectures, Spanish and Flamenco scheduled at the beginning and end of the day. In addition to lectures, concerts, masterclasses and private coachings, all students will be invited to participate in various activities around Madrid such as museum visits, musical archive visits, cxcursions to nearby towns such as Segovia or Toledo and, of course a Paella and/or Cocido meal. (Participants pay only for the activities they choose to do. The excursions to other towns will be day trips from Madrid and will most likely be scheduled on the weekend of July 6-7. If any participants wish to travel around Spain before or after the course we will be happy to assist in any way possible)
Competition
This year all accepted singers will be eligible to compete to sing concert with the "Orquesta de la Universidad de Granada" in their 2013/14 season. Once a participant secures their place in the course, they will be sent scores provided by the orchestra to choose from so that they can prepare one, along with any other song or aria in Spanish (see list below for ideas) to present for the competition which will be held during the course (day to be determined, but most likely on the 12th of July). Once accepted in the course, we will send more information and the scores.
